Attention all users of the Remote Desktop mobile app on iOS and Android devices: An important update has been announced by Microsoft, and action is required before July 19th, 2024, to ensure uninterrupted access to your Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) sessions. Every customer that use those App versions will be notified by Microsoft via e-mail.
The Issue at Hand
A critical bug has been identified in the current versions of the Remote Desktop mobile app for both Android and iOS platforms. This bug affects the screen capture protection feature of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), failing to prevent screenshots on mobile devices. This means that sensitive information accessed through the AVD could potentially be compromised. It’s critical to note that this issue is specific to the screen capture protection feature; other content protection functionalities, like watermarking, remain unaffected.
Versions Affected
The following versions of the Remote Desktop mobile app are impacted by this bug and require immediate attention:
- iOS: Version 10.5.8 (5419)
- Android: Versions 10.0.18.1251 and onwards, including 10.0.19.1270, 10.0.19.1277, 10.0.19.1279, 10.0.19.1280, and 10.0.19.1283
Required Action
To address this issue, updated versions of the app have been released:
- For iOS users: Update to version 10.5.9 (5433)
- For Android users: Update to version 10.0.19.1285
These updates are available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is crucial for all users within your organization currently using the affected versions to update their apps by July 19th, 2024. After this date, the older versions will be deprecated and will no longer authenticate to AVD endpoints, regardless of the screen capture protection feature’s status.
How to Update
Updating your Remote Desktop mobile app is straightforward:
- Visit the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Search for the Remote Desktop mobile app.
- Tap on the Update button next to the app.
Please ensure that your device meets the minimum requirements for the updated version.
Stay Informed
Microsoft also recommends configuring Service Health alerts in the Azure Portal to stay up-to-date on important security events and updates.
This update is critical for maintaining the security and functionality of your AVD sessions.
