Changes to the education and non-profit licensing model

Microsoft has updated the launch timeline for its deprecation of Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) legacy Public Sector offers, which include the Government Community Cloud, education, and non-profit sectors. The launch will now take place in four waves starting from March 1, 2024. The revised dates are as follows:

  • Wave 1 and 2: Price list preview on February 1, 2024, and available in new commerce from March 1, 2024.
  • Wave 3: Price list preview on March 1, 2024, and available in new commerce from April 1, 2024.
  • Wave 4: Price list preview on April 1, 2024, and available in new commerce from May 1, 2024.

However, the ability to purchase these offers won’t be available until March 1, 2024. Any attempts to purchase before this date will result in an error message.

Key future milestones include:

  • May 1, 2024: New subscription purchases for available public sector product SKUs must be on new commerce.
  • July 1, 2024: Microsoft led migrations from legacy to new commerce starts.

Additionally, donation product SKUs for non-profits, including Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Power Apps Per App (both free up to 10 seats), will be available for purchase from March 1, 2024.

NOTE: For the end-customer there will be no technical impact with those changes. Although there will be changes in the price as well as in the duration of commitment to a specific plan. Customer should be advised of the NCE subscription model!
